Chicago Purchasing Managers Index Expanded
|
The Chicago Purchasing Managers reported the CHICAGO BUSINESS BAROMETER expanded for the second consecutive month:
BUSINESS ACTIVITY:
PRICES PAID firmed;
PRODUCTION expansion slowed while NEW ORDERS continued to expand;
EMPLOYMENT rate of contraction slowed;
BUYING POLICY: M.R.O. Supplies lead-time dropped sharply.
The November Chicago Business Barometer recovered from its September stumble. While the headlines celebrate the end of the recession, we must tend to our knitting to cover the tears rent by the recession, creating a new fabric to complement of our reinvigorated society.
Just as September stumble reflected generalized weakness in the component series, the November report continued to build on the generalized strengthening since the March 2009 low (31.4). The behavior of the three month moving average of each of the seven (seasonally adjusted) measures of business activity provides its own signal of strength. For the second consecutive month, the three month moving average of all seven indexes increased over the prior month. Individual indexes, also consistent strength.
