Goods and Services Deficit Decreases in January 2009
The Nation's international deficit in goods and services decreased to $36.0 billion in January from $39.9 billion (revised) in December, as imports decreased more than exports.

Exports decreased to $124.9 billion in January from $132.5 billion in December. Goods were $82.2 billion in January, down from $88.8 billion in December, and services were $42.7 billion in January, down from $43.8 billion in December.
Imports decreased to $160.9 billion in January from $172.4 billion in December. Goods were $129.2 billion in January, down from $140.0 billion in December, and services were $31.8 billion in January, down from $32.4 billion in December.
For goods, the deficit was $47.0 billion in January, down from $51.3 billion in December. For services, the surplus was $10.9 billion in January, down from $11.4 billion in December.
