DJ-BTMU U.S. Business Barometer dropped 0.7%
For the week ending December 4, 2010, the DJ-BTMU U.S. Business Barometer dropped by -0.7 percent, after increasing for four consecutive weeks. Seasonal adjustment surrounding the timing of holiday shutdowns for auto manufacturers caused a big jump in auto production in the week ending November 27th that was reversed in the following week. Adding to that was a lull in holiday shopping following the extremely strong sales surrounding Black Friday that resulted in a drop in inflation-adjusted chain store sales of -2.4 percent. Not to worry, however, because data already show a strong increase in chain store sales during the week ending December 11th.
