ICSC Chain Store Sales rose 0.7% In May 2 Wk
The International Council of Shopping Centers and Goldman Sachs Retail Chain Store Sales Index rose 0.7% in the week ended Saturday from its level a week before on a seasonally adjusted, comparable-store basis. On a year-on-year basis, retailers saw sales fall 0.8% in the latest week.
"Seasonally hot weather helped to drive consumers over the last week with a lift coming from drug stores, department stores, discounters, wholesale clubs, electronic stores and office supply," said Michael P. Niemira, ICSC chief economist. He added the firm expects April sales will benefit by at least 1% on a year-on-year basis because of Easter occurring in April this year and March last year
